MY NEW NAME!

There She Goes…

Well – what do ya think?! I was racking my brain and doing all the typical brainstorming activities I do for college research papers (feeling silly) and all the while I had this annoying song stuck in my head (from who knows when – the 90’s?) and then it hit me – “racing through my brain, there she goes, there she goes again” – so I said (not out loud – I’m not crazy – but I do answer myself!), “Hmmmm…After days of trying to map out a creative, crafty, catching, blog name maybe it could be as simple as the song that will not leave my synapses to fire in piece!” SO that is how the new name of my blog was found.

I am still trying to figure out how to reformat the blog to encompass more of ME and less of the LRW challenge it used to be. So please give me time to work out all the kinks – I’m new to the blog-o-sphere!

Training Updates – I’ve finally settled on a Marathon to set my sights on!

Drum roll please….

That’s right – Hawaii it is! I am very excited about this. I have combed through their anthology of a website and it looks like one big party to run there – really I’m just looking for 26.2 miles of distractions for the squishy mass I call my brain and the sometimes squishy masses I call my legs – I’m sure that’s what they’ll feel like when I’m done!

Any takers on running it with me!? Tricia? I am not looking for a training partner – though the long training runs sound pretty boring to do solo…I’m just sayin’! Or maybe someone stateside who wants to train and then meet up with me there?

Regardless, my husband will be with me and watching Nola while I run so that is one of the most important things – that I am NOT pushing Nola in front of me for 26.2 miles! While it is good training – I’ll pass on the extra resistance on race day.

Running Updates – So where did I leave off…okay – I told you about the monster hill I ran 4 times on Thursday!

So, Friday I had an easy day – ran 3.5 miles at the park with Nola, we had a good time – I found a new place to run “Ginowan SeaSide Park” – has a awesome little beach area, a sea wall area, play stuff for kids, gymnasium, etc. What it did lack though – everywhere was some SHADE! So we probably won’t be going back there for my runs but I would love to let Nola out on the little beach they had. It was super clean and hardly anyone was there – granted we were there on Friday at 9am! I just can’t do the running for long periods with no shade thing…not with the heat and humidity starting to kick into full gear here.

Map of the paths to run at SeaSide Park

Newest Edition - only 17lbs & super easy, portable. I heart the sunshade!

I have been starting to wear sunscreen every day no matter what though because we’ve all heard of farmers tan – well if you think that one is bad you should see the runners tan! You’ll have multiple lines depending on which tanks, Tees, or shorts, Capri’s and socks you decide on! And no matter what you choose – your feet will be that whites thing anyone sees after Labor Day!

Saturday – My Long Slow Run (LSW) day! We went to Comprehensive Park again (I love all the shade there) and I ran….another drum roll please…my first ever 7 miles!

I felt good going into it – not nervous to be pushing the stroller that far – I just told myself, “if you need to stop then stop but try to keep going as long as you can.” So I stopped at the half-way point to check on the monkey (I worry that she is terribly bored) and she was asleep – so bored…umm, probably! I lowered the back of her chair to allow for the breeze to blow through on her and took off again. I did stop about a mile later (though I was sure how far I had gone at the time) b/c I realized I forgot to re-start my Garmin from when I stopped to check on Nola. URGH! I hate when I do that. So I immediately backtracked to see how much ground I had lost instead of guessing (I’m retarded with distance, time, directions, I won’t go on) and I am glad I did because I went exactly 1 mile.

I didn’t even really feel warmed up until mile 3 and by the time I was done my knees were aching a bit but overall I felt like I could have kept on running.

All of the cardio work that Jeanne has me doing really makes a difference. On my LSR days I can tell a big difference. Even while going further distances than I ever had before I never reach the point where I need to stop to catch my breath.

Nutrition Updates: I let Jeanne know about scrapping the whole “Living Runner’s World” challenge and just doing what is best for my body, my running and my insides! She seemed to be very excited with that idea and made some great recommendations for me. I am currently doing some research on new ways of understanding my body, our history as eaters and new ways to eat. I have to admit this stuff is interesting! I know I have some (a ton) of reading to do for school but I can barely put this new book down… okay – so I guess I’ll tell you – I’m reading Robb Wolf’s the Paleo Solution. This guy is funny and smart! Makes reading (what would otherwise be slightly boring stuff) about food and biological makeup very interesting.

Miles ran this week = 16.2

Miles ran YTD = 124.25

I love the new name as well as the design! Very pretty!

Congratulations on your 7 mile run … and that’s with Nola and a new jogger (in your case that would be “runner”). 🙂 I’m sure you look like a natural pushing it … but people need to know it’s not as easy as it looks. No matter how “light” it is. You can’t pump your arms as easily especially uphill! 🙂 Guess that makes it great for training, right?

Hooray for setting your sights on Hawaii … how cool! You have an opportunity to go somewhere new, race off extra calories (as if you need to) to prepare yourself for the most amazing food (and I’m sure Hawaii has just that!).

Paleo Solution sounds very interesting … hmmmm, I may have to read up on that. I can’t wait to read your review.

HI Angie! I am so glad you let me know what you think of the new name and the layout! I had my eye on this layout for a while now but it didn’t make sense before – I couldn’t really use my heading photo of runners.

Alicia (Air Force neighbor here) is reading up on the Paleo diet as well. WE chatted it up this evening in our front yard. It is based on the way people used to eat back in the Hunting and Gathering days of society (before the Agricultural Revolution happened). VERY interesting stuff! The best part about it – it’s easy to feed your whole family (kids included) this way.

Check out this ladies blog for more info http://everydaypaleo.com/
she was one of Robb Wolf’s clients and gives a testimonial in the intro to the book I am reading. Her recipes are great.

Thanks for checking in on my progress Angie – I really appreciate your positive comments and great feedback!

Really like the new title!! I have been thinking about adding a ‘go’ to my title…Go Groff’s Girl, Go! Not sure…I think Groff’s Girl is just really basic and doesn’t really give an idea of what I am about….always on the go!!! What do you think? I like the new format, very pretty and weird to say but, more personal…does that make sense??
Way to go on the 7 miles! Tomorrow is my day back to running after taking a week off for the leg to get stronger. I hope it goes well! I got my new Nike Frees, so I hope they are going to work out for me. I will give them a few runs and then determine what I think. Then I can try on some in the States (if they don’t work out) and pick a pair to exhange them for through RoadRunnerSports. We will have to get together before I leave…man, that time is creeping up quickly!!!

Oh…and I like the GO addition…but you’re right – with it short, sweet and easy to remember – there is less presumption about what you’re about.

I almost called mine “Running Happy in Okinawa” – I have a Brooks running shirt that says “Run Happy” and love it – was my favorite shirt until I found the Bad Ass Mother Runner shirt I usually wear to races!

Thanks for the props on the blog! I definitely feel like it is more personal and I like that – I wasn’t enjoying my posts as much feeling like I had to write ONLY about running or RW related things. This will be much better – especially since I get to color outside the lines and try all sorts of new things!

WE HAVE TO GET TOGETHER THIS WEEK! Tricia and I were talking about Wednesday – wanna join us?

I really LOVE the new name!! I give you props with this blog (both you & Amanda). I started 3 but always fizzle out!!
Honolulu! That is one on my list! I have a few friends that did it & they loved it! Hmmmm…something to think about seriously!

I think that sounds good if the 3 of us can get together on Wednesday. We need to meet up again before Amanda goes!

Also, I love the Run Happy Brooks saying! That’s my shoe brand of choice! 🙂

Omgosh – I would just be over the top happy/excited if you did Hawaii with me! I know you have way more experience then me in this area so I would love to be a running partner with you for a marathon!

My friend Aimee had a great suggestion of having friends or fam meet us there to watch the baby so Shane could jump in and run the last 10 miles with me! And in the event you went – that idea would be great for the both of us! I have a friend who lives on Hickam AFB there and I am sure she would watch Nola for me. Either that or I could see if Shane’s brother, wife and baby girl want to space-a there and watch and cheer!

      So exciting!

Deana – I would love to make my own but have no idea where to start or even what I would want it to look like. Once my husband gets home I’ll have a little more time for myself to work on this page!

Your blog name still shows as Living Runners World ! Glad your reading Paleo Solution I have found it one of th easiest and informative Paleo reads out there. I hope you choose to venture on the Paleo route it is well worth it if you are honest with yourself and really get a good grasp of the directives. Overall it will absolutely improve your running. Not at first but after about 2 weeks you will feel the same way you did before cutting at all the BAD foods and then overall it takes 6 weeks for your body to completely adapt to a ketogenic diet. I love it and have no cravings occassional I want something sweet so I hit up the dark chocolate and all is well. It has made a great difference for the girls as well obviously I am much more lenient with them but they are eating a 100 times better as well. CHEESE was the hardest thing for me to cut out but I have managed. There are variations of the diet The Primal Blueprint allows dairy if you have to have it. I think it is more important to be really strict with it in the first 30 days and then you can adapt Paleo to your lifestyle once you are comfortable with eating and exercising in a way complete against what the US has forced down our throats. Glad to hear you decided to do Hawaii better get used to the Oki heat its not going anywhere 5 AM runs will become you new best friend don’t let it get you down just have to push through it and acclimate it will be easier once Shane get home and you can ditch the stroller. Stay Strong.

I know, I know – I’m still working on setting this up so that it all refelcts the new name! I think I’ll just pay the $5 for the domain name and then it can be thereshegoes.com

Thanks for all the helpful info and for continuing to check in on me! We really miss you guys and have actually discussed trying to pick a duty station to be close to you all again but then Shane pointed out the difference in rotation times – we would only ever be in the same place for a year and then you guys would move. LAME!
